Brannen Mehaffey – CEO, Pivot Networks |

Pivot Networks founder and Chief Executive Officer Brannen Mehaffey is the embodiment of his company’s relentless focus on superlative customer service within the technology services sector.
His early tenure at Cisco Systems was instrumental to the drive and work ethic he carries to both his employees and his customers today. As a Director of Information Technology, Brannen had a single responsibility in his job description – complete accountability for the performance of the Cisco Systems Austin Help Desk, where he was both team leader and the primary customer-facing representative of his company.
In these customer engagements (called acquisitions), Mehaffey was personally responsible for the successful integration of each customer’s legacy property into the Cisco environment. Performing an average of 20 acquisitions per year, Mehaffey says that the processes and methodologies learned while at Cisco “gave me 60% of the tools I use to manage projects and lead my company today,” and called those years, “the best possible training ground for my future professional development.”
In his 15-year career, Mehaffey has also provided high-level IT support to ethical hacking firms and served as Director of IT at Zone Trading Partners, where he managed the technical infrastructure supporting over 90 hedge-fund traders and achieved an in-and-out speed of 0:05 per transaction – at the time, no mean feat.
Active in the Austin community, Mehaffey frequently volunteers at the Austin Habitat for Humanity, The Texas Book Festival, and Capital IDEA (all of whom are also Pivot Networks customers, and who - as non-profits - receive Pivot’s discounted services) as well as maintaining charitable relationships with Lifeworks and the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
Pivot Networks is Mehaffey’s third company. The first, a technical training company, was later sold and the other, Essential Networks (a provider of IT services to “Mom and Pop” shops founded during Mehaffey’s tenure at Cisco) eventually closed its doors, as Mehaffey’s increasing responsibilities at Cisco precluded his participation in side-projects.
Brannen’s management style is loose yet tenacious. He’s more likely to be seen in a leather jacket than a suit; however, his professionalism more closely resembles the starched collar of a seasoned Wall Street veteran.
With 29 industry Certifications, Mehaffey’s knowledge base is broad and deep. “He’s the IT guy that corporate IT guys go to when they get into trouble,” says corporate communications consultant Erik Brady who, in the last decade, has worked with several competitive providers of IT services in the major Texas markets.
